First Hair Cut...

So, I've been busy this week, so I decided our new thing for this week was going to the salon. Since my sister was able to cut Nora's hair, it was an inexpensive outing... and it turned out to be fun for both of us.
My sister's salon is called Hair and Bodyworks, in South Jordan. She always does my own hair, so I didn't dream of taking Nora anywhere else to get her first haircut. Nora sat really well in the "big chair" and had a "big bib." She told everyone about it the rest of the day. Nora loved looking in the mirror and seeing herself.

Here's the end result. Not a lot of difference, but it looks better.
Recommendations? Find a friend or someone who can do a pedicure, manicure or something similar for you. It's always fun to just paint toenails or fingernails. I know my nieces love that too. If you go too a friend's house, it a good, inexpensive way to get out and look good in the process.

Discovery Gateway (children's museum)

Today we took our first adventure to Discovery Gateway. You can find all their information on their website. Two of my nieces attend the same preschool, and they were having a field trip, so we were able to tag along. I think it is pretty expensive to go without a school group or discount of some kind, but we were able to go for the group price, so it was great! Because we were with a school group, we couldn't do certain things and they scheduled our time in each place, but we were able to play a lot.

My overview of the place is that the bottom floor is better for younger kids (pre-K) and the upper floor is geared for older kids (elementary), though kids of all ages can find fun things to do on both floors.

Fun exhibits there are: a store, house, farm-ish, waterway, balls with tubes, construction, news studio, blocks, theatre.

I think this was a fun activity, but all the adults were done about 1.5 hours into it. I think the younger kids were done shortly after that, and the older kids could have stayed all day. It was fun to go and hang out with my sisters and their kids. Here are some pictures that show some of the different things to do there.
Recommendations? I would probably go there again, but only if it was discounted and I had some friends and kids that wanted to go. Plan for two hours or less. There is no food or drink allowed inside, but they have some tables out by the helicopter that you can use for a lunch/snack break. You can get a 3 hour parking pass to park at the Gateway for $1 (inside the museum).

Getting Started

I am beginning an adventure. I have decided to take my boring-ness into my own hands, and take a day out with my daughter, Nora.
My goal is to take one day every week and complete a new activity. I'm not made of money, so I'm going for things that are $2 or less. Free is best. I'll be explaining the activity, and then give details so anyone can do it. I hope this will make me become a better mother, and give Nora some good experiences. I'm also hoping to put together a good list of activities to do in my area, that I (and perhaps others), can refer when I need something fun to do.
Here's hoping, and I can't wait to get started. We'll see how the weather is next week and pick the first activity for indoors or outdoors.
